Rather than send power out to my solar-powered sun tracking controller I would like to just send the GND, SDA, and SCL signals.
I can tie the grounds together between the I2C&Power unit and the power system out there, of course.
The sun tracker draws about 2 amps to move the panels and I think that might be a bit too much to power fully via CAT5 cable at about 65 feet away. I would rather use the power out there already. It has a dedicated solar panel and charge controller just for the sun tracker and Arduino Nano out there.
So the question is: Should I still send power and use it (with a 12-to-6v converter) to power just the I2C board itself? That would be no problem. It seems to me that if I do that, and all the grounds are connected, all should be well.
Any thoughts?
